What's Planned

The programme

Three flagship moments the organisers are building the weekend around — with quiet hours between for lakeside time, conversation, and rest.

Bonfire Under the Stars

The signature evening — a large bonfire by the lakeside, the night sky overhead, and the kind of conversation that only happens around fire.

Capoey Lake Tour

A guided tour out on the lake itself — freshwater Essequibo wilderness, lush green shoreline, and the kind of birdlife the Pomeroon is known for.

Live Entertainment

Live drumming and music threading through the Diamond Jubilee theme — honouring the diverse heritage that shapes Guyana at 60.

Where It Happens

Find Lake Capoey

A freshwater lake in the Pomeroon, Region 2 — reached via the Essequibo crossing from Parika. The hosts coordinate the final leg from the riverbank to the lakeshore.

Where this fits in the Jubilee

A quiet corner of a loud weekend

May 25–26, 2026 is the close of Guyana's Diamond Jubilee programme — sixty years of independence from Britain, marked across the country.

That same weekend sees the Drone Light Show 2026 over Providence (May 26) and Albion in Berbice (May 27), the National Flag-Raising at D'Urban Park late on May 26, the Independence 3-Stage Cycling Race closing earlier in the day, and the Independence Table Tennis Tournament running through the week at Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Capoey Nights is the opposite end of that spectrum — 16 people, a lake, a bonfire, drums, the stars overhead. A way to feel the same 60-year arc without standing in a crowd of thousands.

Good to Know

Frequently asked

Lake Capoey is a freshwater lake in Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam, Essequibo), Guyana — about 7.20°N, 58.52°W. The lake sits in lush rainforest surroundings and is reached via the Pomeroon area. Capoey Lake Resort hosts the event on the lake's shore.

Most guests travel via the Essequibo route — drive or speedboat from Parika across the Essequibo River to Supenaam, then onward into the Pomeroon. The hosts arrange the final leg to the lake. Call 688-1202 when booking — they'll coordinate transfers and advise on timing from Georgetown.

The package covers the 2-day, 1-night experience: bonfire under the stars, the guided Capoey Lake Tour, and live entertainment. The flyer's reduced rate is $30,000 GYD per person (down from $60,000) or $50,000 GYD per couple (down from $100,000). Confirm exact meal, accommodation and transfer inclusions when you book.

This is intentionally an intimate retreat — limited to 16 guests total. The aim is a small, personal experience rather than a festival-scale gathering. First come, first served.

Yes. The retreat runs Mon May 25 → Tue May 26, 2026, ending on Independence Day itself. It's framed as a quiet, reflective way to mark 60 years of Guyanese independence — "under the stars", with bonfires and live drumming honouring Guyana's diverse heritage.

Lightweight clothing for the day, layers for the cool lake evenings, insect repellent, sunscreen, swimwear if you'd like to take a dip during the Lake Tour, a headlamp or torch for after dark, a camera (the night sky over the lake is spectacular), and any personal medication.

The flyer doesn't specify an age policy and the format reads as a quiet adults-oriented retreat. If you'd like to bring children, ask the hosts on 688-1202 before booking — they'll advise based on the night's programme.

Call or WhatsApp 688-1202 to reserve your spot. With only 16 guest places, the organisers recommend booking early — especially given Independence weekend is in high demand across the country.
